Offshore IT - Enabled Services from Pakistan

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

The IT revolution can still change the destiny of Pakistan, but will require a readjustment of the sights. This readjustment will require her to work with what she has, and not what she currently doesn't!

Pakistan has been unable to produce software developers in increasing numbers, but does possess skilled workers in reasonable numbers in other fields that can provide services to clients all over the developed world through the Internet. These services range from data entry to telemarketing to insurance claims processing to payroll management to computer-aided designing to financial analysis and forecasting.

Pakistan's doctors can be employed for medical data analysis; lawyers can provide legal advice over the Web; graphic designers can produce animations. The possibilities are numerous and the opportunities lucrative. The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Net Present Value (NPV) numbers for many of these opportunities are similar to those for the software export business.

As an example, look at the function of an insurance claims processing company. Say an automobile accident takes place in New York City. The claimant fills a paper form describing the incident and providing his particulars and submits the form to the insurance company's office in New York. The company scans the form and sends it to the offshore company in Lahore, Pakistan. That form will be automatically routed to the computer terminal of a claims examiner. The examiner goes through the form and (using some simple business rules) determines the validity of the claim and sends his decision to the insurance company in New York. End result: the New York-based company saves 50 per cent of the processing cost!

The customers for such IT-Enabled Services (ITES) are looking for more than one benefit: on the one hand, they want to achieve cost reductions of around 50 per cent, and on the other, they want an improvement in the current level of their services. By outsourcing the non-critical tasks, they also want to focus all their energies on the processes that form the core of their businesses.

Canada is the easiest market to get ITES work from, as it has the highest percentage of businesses that use outsourcing services. Number two on the list is Australia, followed by the US. A higher percentage of companies in the energy sector outsource, followed by the financial services and then, technology companies.

Companies that outsource look for service level guarantees, a proven track record and specialization in the business process of interest from the providers. Many outsourcing relationships fail because of organizational resistance in the client company, unclear performance metrics, or the client's loss of control over the outsourced business process.

The primary advantage that Pakistan's ITES businesses enjoy is the relatively low cost of labor. Secondary advantages are zero corporate taxes and low-cost infrastructure. The time zone difference between Pakistan and the US can also be an advantage in certain ITES businesses.

The key challenges that an ITES entrepreneur faces is marketing the service that he or she is striving to provide and ensuring the confidentiality and security of the client's data. Another challenge is ensuring the quality of the service that can only be achieved by having a clear and continuous organizational focus on the training of the service providers.

Pakistan-based ITES businesses face three types of competitors. The most significant competition comes from prospective clients carrying out the non-core tasks themselves. However, if clients focus on non-core tasks, they suffer from higher costs and lower efficiencies. Hence, they can be enticed by offering high-quality service at a lower, fixed cost.

The second type of competition comes from developed-countries-based outsourcing operators. They run very efficient businesses but are hampered by higher labor costs. The final type of competition comes from outsourcing operators based in low-labor-cost countries like India and Philippines. Pakistan-based ITES businesses don't really have any advantage over them, but can ignore that competition for now as the demand clearly exceeds the supply.

In summary, ITES is Pakistan's irresistible value proposition because of the availability of the trained human resource in reasonable numbers. Moreover, increasing the size of this human resource is easier as compared with what is required for software development.

ITES is a lucrative opportunity for forward-looking entrepreneurs. While selecting an ITES sector, they should look for human resource-intensive business processes in which the difference in the cost of labor between Pakistan and the target market is the largest. They should focus on utilizing their existing strengths and should also try to develop contacts with Pakistan-origin expatriates for marketing purposes. To achieve long-term success, they should look for value-adding partnerships with international companies and focus on organizational excellence and customer satisfaction.

The US economy as a whole is depressed, resulting in squeezed revenues for almost all companies. To meet their profitability targets, most companies have no option but to cut costs. Pakistan's companies can benefit from this situation by offering IT enabled services and software development services at attractive rates. These should be the best of times for Pakistan's companies.

The economic downturn in the US is an opportunity for Pakistan's ITES and software development companies, not a setback!

Embrace Your Wild Nature With A Camping Tent

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Inside everyone there is a rugged outdoors-person. Whether you spend your work weeks at a computer designing the latest software or are a homemaker caring for your children, there is a part of you that longs to be out in the splendor of nature. It's only natural. The human spirit sometimes longs for adventure, for a break from the routine. Our bodies want to breathe clean, free air. Sadly, there are often too few opportunities to do this, but for there are times when the body can no longer be denied and the call of the wild overpowers the honking of horns or chatter of coworkers. Keeping camping tents handy is the best way to make sure the animal inside us can be easily sated.

The air away from cities is somehow sweeter, more fragrant, and more lively than that of cities. Even mountain towns or farming communities don't feel as open, as completely organic as packing up the camping tents and spending a few days in the wilderness. It allows a cleansing of the mental palette. It permits an escape from the self. Sometimes it is human nature that stands in the way of true mental health.

It is too easy to deny the animal. There isn't a person alive that doesn't need a little time among the trees, beside a brook, away from cell phone reception. It does something to the psyche that can't be matched by the relaxation techniques of any spa in the world. No hour of deep tissue massage can compare with the full relaxation that comes from returning to the radiance of nature. It has a certain poetry that inspires the latent artist as much as the wildness in everyone. It is something easily grasped with the help of a few poles and some canvas sheets.

Camping tents are designed after the first homes that human beings actually made on the planet. The first tents were created when humankind was nomadic, travelling from place to place following herds of animals or foraging for food. Naturally they have been redesigned hundreds of times, each making improvements on the same basic design until today. Now, they are lighter and easier to transport than ever, using space age materials to create tents that can retain warmth in sub-zero temperatures and yet be carried on the back of one person.

Camping tents are an easy, affordable way to escape from the rigors of daily life. They provide freedom, a connection to the past, and to nature. It is incredible that mankind has come full circle, utilizing the latest technological advances to engage in an activity that is older than true civilization. It is a profound wonder to combine the inventions of humankind with the glory of the natural world. More than television or reading, it can give you a chance otherwise unseen in modern society to truly connect with the people around us or with the wildness of our hearts.

Everyone Creates Spam Emails

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Spam, no thanks. Everyone hates spam emails; they are annoying and serve no other purpose but to increase the wealth of spammers. Unfortunately, we all create spam - mostly unaware of it. Emails are a good tool that helps informing people on subject matters, but informing and "generating corporate spam" are two very different animals. Simple measures reduce corporate email traffic by up to 30 percent, while increasing organization's effectiveness and making everybody's life easier.

Some topics concern many employees and keeping them informed is paramount for a well working organization. Nothing is wrong with addressing them all at once in an email. Emails are an excellent way to distribute information simultaneously - given, the content does indeed provide relevant information.

Finding answers and agreements requires often preceding inquiries and discussions with others. Emails can just be the right tool for this. It is however unnecessary to list everyone who possibly could be interested in the subject on the initial, inquiring email. Good business practice is discussing the subject just with the people who know the answer or can contribute to it, and once the result is available, distributing the relevant information to all people who it concerns. This simple measure reduces corporate email traffic easily by 10-20 percent.

Do we always need to "reply to all"? This is obviously not the case. Well, it is never wrong to let managers and colleagues know how "pro-active" one is, so does this not ask to cc them all when raising a topic or responding to an email? No again, the best way to "impress" people is to provide solutions and results. Furthermore, there is really no need to reply to all when thanking a colleague by email. Use the "reply to all" button as infrequently as possible. Corporate spam, no thanks.

Read and delivery acknowledgment requests can be very helpful. They inform the sender about delivery of an email or that the recipient has opened it. They offer however no guarantee that the recipient has actually read the email. Acknowledgment requests are for the occasional email that is of utmost importance. Receiving them permanently is simply annoying. Email client software can be difficult to understand, particularly for people who are not so IT-savvy, but colleagues or IT support will gladly help to disable this setting. Other people may feel that their emails are always of greatest importance, and ask for acknowledgments by default. These people need to understand, that what they do is simply spamming, doubling their email traffic by 100 percent, an unnecessary burden on the addressees.

Simple measures and a little bit of team spirit can make a huge difference in email communication. We all have to handle a huge workload, and our inboxes fill up daily. Reducing unnecessary email traffic allows us concentrating on important tasks and providing results more quickly. This is to everyone's benefit. Spam, no thanks - relevant information, yes please.

3 Major Web Design Challenges of the Future

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

With a title like this, one might think that there is a consensus among computer, networking and communications professionals as to what these three challenges are. This is not the case, of course. There are many, many challenges for Web designers (past, present and future) and those who stay abreast of high-tech industries could make many lengthy lists. However, there really are just a handful of truly troubling prospects, and this article will introduce you to what truly are three major Web design challenges of the future. There are others, but no one in the know would discount the importance of the three discussed here.

1. Standards: Apple and Adobe are at war, figuratively speaking, over the fact that Apple will not make its iPhone Flash compatible. Not only that, the new Apple developer kit agreement forbids application makers from using non-Apple tools to make iPhone apps. This is a direct slap in the face to Adobe, whose new Creative Studio 5 includes tools for making Flash-based and other apps for Apple's mega-best-selling phone. The larger issue that it points up is that of standards. We are supposed to see video, animation and Flash-like functionality from the upcoming HTML5. (Upcoming? Our interest is up, but when is it coming?)

If this sort of behavior metastasizes throughout the associated industries, the fluid and predictable nature of Web use may change. It would be hard, especially for small firms, to create various versions of its applications for different devices. Perhaps a few years ago, people would have wondered what the Web, and Web designers, had to do with phones. Today, however, a growing fraction of Web surfing is being done from a wide range of mobile devices. Standards create a predictable, stable environment, and the sooner the next multimedia-centric set is adopted widely, the better.

2. Color calibration: With the number of different devices displaying Web pages, whether the standard pages or alternatives made for some phone displays, there is no simple way to ensure color consistency. At the dawn of the Web (so long ago for some, just yesterday for others) it was common for some publishers to produce two layouts, one in the CMYK four-color space for printing, the other in the computer-monitor RGB color space. (CMYK refers to the four colors, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black, that are used in process color printing. RGB means Red, Green and Blue, the colors that monitors and other displays use.) However, it is not only the color space that affects the way color is perceived, the kind of display matters, too.

Today there are all kinds of different displays (LCD, LED, OLED, TFT, etc.) of all different sizes, some glossy and some matte, and the variation in color display is dramatic. Web designers used to spend tremendous amounts of time producing variations of sites for different displays (computer monitors, mobile phones, TVs, even in-dash car units). Some still do. Others are attempting to find the best single color scheme for their sites, one that will display at least acceptably precise colors on a multiplicity of displays. There is no easy answer to this one, as there are so many variables. Until a new, cross-platform and device-independent color calibration standard is in place, there is nothing else to do but the best possible job with the current tools, techniques and technologies.

3. Displays: In addition to having an impact on the colors used by Web designers, different displays present a problem of what is called screen real estate. If you do not prepare and deploy different sites for different platforms, you will have a site that displays properly in only one place, more than likely the computer monitor. However, mobile Web surfing from small-screen netbooks, handhelds, iPads and smartphones is growing fast, and may one day (soon) move from a strong second to first place in page views.

There is great progress being made in interposing some software routines between the site and the receiver's display, so that the correct size parameters and design alternatives will be presented depending on the size of that display. That part of the problem is being solved, perhaps, but there are other display technologies coming that will present other hurdles. Displays that are 3D, flexible and/or capable of being rolled up in a tube will have properties (and present problems) we do not even know about yet. A major issue with portable displays of every kind, of course, is how they look in sunlight, shade, changing conditions and at different viewing angles. There is an amazing amount of money going into display R&D today, you had better believe it.

Sure, there are other challenges for Web designers, but these three (standards, color calibration and displays) can confidently lay claim to being toward the top of any tech-savvy observer's list.

Developing A Web Site Strategy For Success

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Web site objectives

Before you even contact a web designer to create your online presence you need to determine what are your online aims and objectives. In the creation of these objectives you need to ensure they are:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Timely
This will ensure that you can properly monitor the success of your online activities, and provide you with a clear understanding of what you want your web presence to achieve.

In terms of the types of objective, these can be any number of things, but typically they include the following areas:

  • To sell
  • To better serve customers
  • To reduce costs
  • To build your brand image
  • To communicate with the outside world
Once you have clearly defined your online and web site's objectives, you can move on to the next stage of determining your audience.

Web site targets

Knowing who you want to target is important for a number of reasons. Firstly who you target will impact on whether you need a web site, and if you do how it will be presented and the functionality to be provided, secondly it will determine what messages need to be conveyed through the web site and thirdly it will determine whether you need to segment the information presented on your web site and if you do, provide you with an idea how to do it.

In determining your targets, its really important you understand their individual needs, as this will ensure that your web site specifically caters for your visitor needs. So you are not wasting valuable time and money trying to second guess whether the functionality provided will be used or not.

Web site messages

Closely linked to both your objectives and targets is the messages that you want to convey. The messages you wish to convey will impact on all aspects of your web site from the visual, through to the content and functionality.

For instance how do you want your audience to perceive you, this can include any number of message, such as:

  • Innovative
  • Exciting
  • High quality
  • Low cost
  • Customer service
For example a web site that wants to convey excellent customer service, may provide an online helpdesk - providing customers with the ability to gain help 24 hours a day. An organisation who is looking to convey an image of low cost is likely to provide a more simplistic web site, which conveys a perception of a cheap alternative.

Web site strategy

Once you have clarified your objectives, targets and messages, you can start thinking about the type of online strategy that would be most appropriate to your organisational requirements. This tends to be focused around one of six levels:

  • No web presence
  • Basic web presence
  • Static informational web site
  • Simple interactive web site
  • Interactive site supporting user transactions
  • Fully interactive site supporting the entire purchasing process
So for instance if you wanted a basic informational web site consisting of two or three that you didn't need to update on a regular basis, you would probably be looking at a basic web presence. However, if you wanted an e-commerce web site that would link into your offline inventory system, allow customers to manage themselves and provide marketing tools to support the entire purchasing process, a fully interactive web site is likely to be more appropriate to your needs.

However in determining the type of web site, time and cost considerations need to be made, as the more advanced the web site, the more time and cost is required for its development.

Online Marketing Planning

As part of your web strategy, it is really important that you develop an online marketing plan, that covers the following areas:

  • Product - what are you selling?
  • Place - where will you be selling it? For instance do you already have an offline operation? Will your online activities need to link into your offline activities? How will you deliver your product?
  • Promotion - how will you get people to visit your web site?
  • Price - what prices will you charge customers?
  • Process - what process will visitors follow once they are on your site? How will this trigger your call to action?
  • Physical Evidence - what tangible evidence will your visitors receive? For instance after ordering a product will they receive an automated e-mail, will you send an automated e-mail upon dispatch?
  • People - what man power will you require to support your online activities? For example will you need people to man your 24 hour online help desk?
  • Partnerships - will you need any partnerships to make your online activities a really? If so what types of partners do you need - for instance technology partners to develop the web site, delivery partners to deliver your products.
By covering the e-marketing mix, you can ensure you have taken into consideration the key factors in the operation, delivery and success of your online activities. And with each one of these elements being closely aligned to your objectives, targets and messages you can ensure that your online activities will be consistent in their approach.

Web site design considerations

Once you have a good idea of what you want to do and how you are going to do it, you can turn your attention to your web site design. This is a topic on its own, however there are in principle four areas you should consider:

  • Your online branding - so for example what colour do you want your site to be? Do you want your web site to be consistent with your offline brand? If not, how do you want your site to be branded?
  • Ease of use - how will users find their way around your web site? Is there a clear process for navigating your web site and can they locate the required information quickly, easily and simply?
  • Accessibility - how will you ensure your web site is accessibility compliant? Will you provide visitors with the ability to increase text size and change colours? Will your web site be accessible in alternative formats?
  • Search engine optimisation - will the search engines be able to find your web site (i.e. your site is not flash animated or consists of text embedded in images)?
Your web designer should be able to assist you with these considerations, and ensure that your web site is created using the latest coding standards as set by W3C. But don't be afraid to ask questions to clarify whether your web site will fulfil the above considerations.

Web site Functional Requirements

The functionality of your web site will be determined by the type of web site you want and the processes that you need to provide via your online presence. For web sites consisting of more advanced functionality, you will often need to employ the services of a web site developer, who will be able provide more advanced functionality and features. In terms of functionality, this can cover any number of things, ranging from a site search facility, through to an online registration facility or even an online catalogue that you can update yourself.

In selecting your web site's functionality, ensure you carefully consider how it will help you fulfil your objectives. Otherwise you may incur an expensive bill, with very little return on investment. If however you do want a web site providing more advanced functionality, consider adopting a phased approach to your web site, and this is something that your web or software development company will be able to help, ensuring minimal rework, based on an understanding of your future needs.

Time, Money and Resources

Creating and maintaining an online presence requires time, money and resources, and you need to take this into consideration from the very start. As well as planning how much time and money the initial implementation will require, you need to consider the ongoing costs associated with a web site. And these can include any number of things, such as:

  • General web site maintenance and updates if you don't have a content management system (CMS)
  • Costs of driving traffic to your web site through pay per click campaigns and continual search engine optimisation (SEO) efforts
  • Hosting
  • Domain names
  • Day to day management of the web site such as timely reply to e-mails
With each of these costs soon adding up, it is important for you to ensure your web site delivers a return on investment,

Measurement

Once your web site is up and running, it is really important you monitor whether it is helping you to achieve your objectives. If its not, then need to look find out why. To do this there are a range of useful tools available, one the most simple things being web site analytics.

The type of analytics package will depend on your web site, however you will normally require a package that will provide you with information about the traffic visiting your web site, the pages visited and visitor loyalty. With this information you will be able to determine the popularity of your web site, as well as understanding the types of information that interests your visitors and assess whether your web site is considered sticky.

Creating a successful online presence is not a quick process, it takes time and planning to ensure it is a success. By developing an online strategy you can ensure that your web site helps you reach your objectives as well as provide your organisation with a return on investment.

Computer Memory - Speed and Latency

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

You might have already done some research on computer memory and seen the significance of RAM. It is not just the capacity of the RAM that is important, the speed and latency of the RAM is significant as well. It is very much possible for two RAM chips, made by two different manufacturers with different specification, to vary in speeds. To understand the differences, you will need to read up on the speed and latency aspects of computer memory.

Memory speed

A RAM chip comes in different speeds and you will often see it printed on the chip. You will see numbers such as DDR266, DDR400, and DDR800 and so on. All these numbers suggest different speeds. For example, DDR 266 means that the speed of the RAM is 2.1 gigabytes per second. The speed of the DDR400 chip is 3.2 gigabytes per second. The speed of the DDR800 is 6.4 gigabytes per second. These speeds are called bandwidth speeds. The processor on your computer will have a certain bandwidth speed and your RAM chip will ideally need to at least match that speed. If it is does not match, it will result in slow or less than optimal performance for the computer. Thus, it is not just the capacity of the RAM that is important. You will need to pay attention to its bandwidth speed as well.

Latency of the memory

This is a less important feature of the RAM that will decide the speed of the computer. Latency is the amount of time it takes for the RAM chip to respond to a request from the processor. Obviously, a RAM chip with lower latency will be faster as it will be able to respond to the processor quicker. However, most average users will not find latency of RAM to be a big issue. It is only users who use high tech 3D animations or advanced graphics software that will see a difference in computer speed that is affected by the latency of the computer memory chip.

Thus, when buying RAM or upgrading RAM, it will be important to consider the two aspects mentioned above as it can make a difference to the speed of the computer. The most optimal RAM is one that is compatible with your processor and you will need to find one that is the closest match to your processor's capabilities. Many users tend to focus on the capacity of the RAM and not its speed. We hope this article will help you avoid that mistake.

How To Start A Successful Blog

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

The most common question I get asked about blogging would be "How do you start a blog?"

For this particular post, I'm going to show you how to start a successful blog (a professional one) in easy steps. If you know how to click a mouse and use the internet, you will be able to do this.

Do not be afraid if you have never done this before or feel you are too technologically challenged to do it -- because you can do it. How do I know? I'm technologically challenged myself -- yet I still did it. But you have the advantage of not having to make the same mistakes that I did by learning from my mistakes.

Picking A Topic

Pick a topic you know about or like a lot. Pick something you're passionate about. You don't even need to be an expert on a subject to blog about it! You can even blog about things you hate as long as you're passionate about it.

Some blogs have "how-to" tutorials, some have photos, animations, cartoons and videos as their content. The most popular blogs are the non-fiction and "how-to" blogs.

Blogging about something you know a lot about or love will encourage regular posting -- therefore people will most likely to return -- and reduce your writer's block.

Doing What You Love, Know Or Hate Is Great, But Is There A Market For The Topic You Want To Blog About?

Do a Google search or use Google Keyword Tool to find out if people are searching for your topic and related terms.

Google Trends helps to find out how popular a search term or word is. Market Samurai is a great tool which I use to find detailed analysis of the topics and markets I want to get into.

Forums are also a great source of information to find out what the market needs. Users there might tell you what information or product they are looking for or willing to pay for. Or you can ask on the forums for what people are after.

Choosing a Blog

Which is Best: WordPress or Blogger?

Call me biased because I'm using WordPress but I've used both of them, and WordPress has impressed me the most -- don't hold it against me almighty Google. WordPress has better and more plugins to make life easier and I am all for it because I'm so lazy and technologically challenged.

Now before you rush off to signup for an account with WordPress, if you are planning on making money out of your blog or if it's for a business, you would want to look professional.

URLs such as yourwebsite.wordpress.com/yourentry doesn't look professional and it's difficult to remember. To get a free blog with Wordpress.com, you are telling your audience that your blog is just a hobby.

To get your own URL or domain such as YourWebsite.com for example, you need a hosting provider to host your domain. Hosting packages usually cover the registration of the domain. Okay, I'll admit a little secret: when I began, I didn't even know what a hosting provider was or what it did. Yes, those words technologically challenged comes into mind.

Hosting Providers

I have used quite a few hosting providers and there are some good ones out there. So far, the ones I like have to be Bluehost and Siteground. I use both of them.

Bluehost offers fantastic, 24 hours online support. I've had some lame newbie problems in the past and they have always been there to help me fix the issues -- without making me feel like a noob. Bluehost support is fast and reliable. Their prices are pretty average. Not the most expensive but not the cheapest either. But you will definitely get good support with them -- so for someone who is new to blogs and websites, they are a Godsend.

Siteground is cheap and cheerful. The prices are cheaper than Bluehost, but for a good reason: their support is elusive to say the least. If you're confident with websites and blogs, then support doesn't really matter. To get hold of a Siteground customer service rep online is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. And Siteground has slightly less features compared to Bluehost. But what they lack in features, they make up for in price and overall performance. If you are on a shoe string budget and want affordable hosting, Siteground is the way to go.

So which host is better? It all comes down to your budget and support preference.

Hosting Your Website

  • Before you register your domain and get your website hosted, have some backup URL or domain names in case the one you want is already taken.
  • Go Bluehost or Siteground and type in the URL you want that is available. Sign up, make payment (credit card or Paypal) and you should receive a welcome email with the login details of your website. It's worth paying that little extra a year for the WHOIS privacy protection so people can't find your personal details when they look at who owns the website. And to prevent them from spamming your email.
  • Sign into your website by going to your hosting provider's website and login with your account details.

Here is where you will easily install WordPress with a few clicks:

  • For Bluehost > Scroll down to Software/Services section and click on Simple Scripts > Under Blogs heading click on WordPress > Click Install > Fill in details > Bookmark you website's WordPress login URL -- now you have a WordPress blog on your own domain!
  • For Siteground > Go Account Section > click CPanel > click Access CPanel Normally > Scroll down to Software/Services section and click on Fantastico De Luxe > Under Blogs click on WordPress > Click on New Installation > Fill in details and click Install WordPress > Bookmark you website's WordPress login URL -- now you have a WordPress blog on your own domain!

Pick A Template (Design) For Your Blog

Many people get worried that they need to know how to design a website in order to have one. But there are templates (for WordPress and Blogger) that are free -- with all the design and work done for you.

To pick a free theme, log into your website's WordPress account (the URL you bookmarked after WordPress was installed) which I'll refer to as the "WordPress backend" from now.

On the left panel, under the Appearance tab, click on Themes, click on Install Themes tab across the top, tick the boxes you want or put in name of a design or word and click Find Themes. Once you have found and settled on a theme, click Install, and then click Install Now button, then click Activate and your theme or design should be live on your website now.

Go check it out by typing your website URL into a new browser window and have a look. If you do not like it, you can search for another theme and activate the new one instead. You can even find the names of the themes you want by doing a Google search. Type "Free WordPress Themes pink" or "Paper WordPress Themes" etc with a short description of the style or color you want and you'll get lists of themes to choose from.

To customize your blog to the colors you want with your logos etc, I'll cover that in part three of this post series "How To Customize Your Blog."

Adding Wordpress Plugins To Make Your Life Easier

What are WordPress plugins?

WordPress blogs on their own are pretty okay for blogging but your site will be pretty bare and simple in function. Unless you are a programmer who can code everything you need, you're going to want some plugins. Best of all, these plugins are free.

What are these plugins and what on earth do they do? The question should be what don't they do? From helping your site run faster, to helping you add contact forms, insert ads, have slide shows, help Google find your site, let you have customized sidebar or menus, embed videos, kill comment spam, make your site prettier and much more! Many programmers have spent time to make these handy plugins to make our lives easier so we can have more interesting and better websites - so a thank you to all you Wordpress plugin programmers out there.

To add new plugins to your WordPress backend (without having to install it manually), on the left-hand panel under Plugins tab, click Add New and type in the name of the plugin or the function that you want, and click Search Plugins. Find plugin you want and select Install Now, and then click Activate Plugin to begin using it.

These Are My Top 13 Recommended WordPress Plugins To Add:

  1. Ad Inserter (by Igor Funa) -- works in tandem with Advertising Manager below. Will make your life easier when you monetize your site with ads. The last thing I want to do is figure out how to code the ads in a way to make them repeat or sit in a certain area on my site. This plugin makes adding ads simple.
  2. Advertising Manager (by Scott Switzer) -- works in tandem with the Ad Inserter above. This useful plugin controls how many ads to show so you don't get bitch slapped by Google Adsense. Google only allows 3 ads per page so this plugin does all the work for you so you don't have to worry about compliance!
  3. Akismet (by Automattic) -- weird name but it is handy to kill off annoying comments who leave spam on your website! This is already pre-installed on all WordPress accounts, you just need to activate it by signing up for an API key.
  4. All In One SEO Pack (by Michael Torbert) -- will help optimize your website for search engines (which is important but more on that in another post).
  5. Comment Link Manager (by Weberz Hosting) -- will make your life easier by letting you manage the links left my commentators.
  6. Easy Privacy Policy (by Kevin Sparrow) -- a must for sites wanting to get on the good side of Google Adsense. This won't guarantee you'll get approved but sure helps a little. Plus it's always professional to let your website visitors know how you're going to protect their personal information (and I hope you mean it!)
  7. Fast Secure Contact Form (by Mike Challis) -- enough said! Building web forms are a pain in the butt and this plugin does it for you and still gives you flexibility to customize it if you wish. And it's secure so it makes me feel all fuzzy and warm. Now you have a "contact us" form, how professional!
  8. Google XML Sitemaps (by Arne Brachhold) -- aids search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing to index your site asap - which is important if you want to be found.
  9. Robots Meta (by Joost de Valk) -- Search engines uses crawlers or web spiders or web robots to "crawl" your website's pages. This plugin points the bots to the pages that matter and avoid the ones that aren't.
  10. Sexy Bookmarks (by Shareaholic) -- if you look below you'll see a social networks panel for people to share this article with (like Facebook, Twitter, Digg, LinkedIn, MySpace etc). This is great to encourage people to tell their friends and family about your site or articles.
  11. Subscribe To Comments Reloaded (by Camu) -- such a small feature yet it can be powerful. It leaves a little box for commentators to tick if they wish to follow comments by other commentators. What does that mean and how does it benefit you? By subscribing to comments, it means they want to see what others are saying and return to your website! Encouraging readers to come back is a great thing to have!
  12. W3 Total Cache (by Frederick Townes) -- Makes your blog load faster! And that in itself is awesome because Google takes that into account when ranking one's site. So the faster your website loads, the better it looks in Google's eyes.
  13. WordPress Databased Backup (by Austin Matzko) -- This one doesn't require an explanation. The name tells you just how important it is to backup your website in case your computer crashes or you accidentally mess up your website.

If Your Theme Needs Extra Basic Features

If you like your theme but it is missing some basic elements -- like menus etc, these plugins might help (remember these are optional so check your theme first):

Menubar (by Andrea Tarantini) -- some theme developers forget to put in a menubar. If your theme is one of them, this will do the trick.

Page Link Manager (by Garrett Murphey) -- if your theme is missing a menubar, odds are you have no control over which links show up in your navigation menu / menubar once you add one. Here is where this plugin will help decide which pages or categories show with a few clicks.

Now What Do I Do Zoe?

You starting writing and putting content in!

WordPress automatically installs a pre-written first post for you. You can either delete it by writing over it, or selecting Add New under Posts tab on the left hand panel.

If you're stuck on what to write for your first post, write your "About Me" page to introduce your blog and yourself to your audience.

I hope this helps your first steps in having your very own blog.

Food ERP Software - Using ERP Software to Improve Food Safety and Traceability

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

With the rise of increasingly stringent FDA and USDA regulatory requirements, companies in the food and beverage industry are being forced to change their internal business processes and leverage new technology to help them meet evolving industry compliance requirements for product safety and lot traceability. A number of enterprise software providers, in turn, have developed sophisticated tools to aid food manufacturers and distributors in meeting such requirements. Businesses who take advantage of such software functionality are better prepared to ensure the highest levels of product safety and are able to gain real-time access to ingredient and finished good lot information.

To achieve more tightly controlled product safety and improved visibility to ingredient and product lot history, companies in the food and beverage industry should consider five critical ERP software requirements when engaging in an ERP selection project, including:

1. Forward and Backward Lot Traceability. Lot tracking and traceability is an essential business requirement for manufacturers and distributors alike. In accordance with the Bioterrorism Act of 2002, all companies who manufacture, distribute, import, pack, process, receive, or hold products that may pose a threat to human or animal safety, such as foods or legal drugs, must be able to track their products and readily submit reports to the FDA at the FDA's request. A fully-integrated manufacturing or food distribution software solution that features both forward and backward lot traceability can track the lot numbers of raw ingredients received into inventory, when these ingredients were received, when these raw ingredients were consumed in manufacturing, the lot numbers of the raw ingredients that went into producing each finished good and / or intermediate product, the lot numbers of all finished goods and / or intermediate products and their manufacture date, and when a customer was shipped a particular finished good lot. Businesses who are unable to track and readily access such ingredient and finished good lot information can be faced with innumerable compliance and financial issues should a product recall need to be initiated.

2. Automated Quality Control Processing. For businesses that must meet regulatory agency requirements, quality control procedures must be put in place at each step along the supply chain. Quality control personnel must be able to document ingredient and finished good quality testing results and be able to retrieve this information in an efficient manner. Business who lack an ERP system with built-in quality control functionality often rely on manually recorded ingredient and product quality data from spreadsheets or paper, making timely data retrieval an impossibility.

An ERP software solution with integrated quality control features, however, can help streamline QC operations and provide a single electronic data source for ingredient and product quality information. When analyzing various ERP companies and their respective solutions, those in the food and beverage industry should look for an ERP solution that provides built-in and / or user definable quality control workflows and processes. These workflows, which consist of automatic alerts, testing, analysis, and electronic signatures, can help prevent many product safety problems from occurring in the first place. Using an ERP system's built-in quality control functionality, certain raw ingredients or materials can be flagged to be tested by quality control personnel each time one of these items is received into inventory from a given supplier. Upon the ingredient's receipt into inventory, quality control personnel can be alerted via email or the ERP system's internal messaging system that the ingredient has been received into inventory and is awaiting quality inspection automatically. Quality personnel can then test and inspect the product, record test data values directly in the system, and then electronically sign off on the ingredient and have it released into available inventory for consumption. If the ingredient does not pass inspection, quality personnel can have pre-defined reason codes for quality inspection failure and have the product subsequently returned to the supplier for credit or reshipment. Likewise, finished goods can be flagged to be put on hold and tested by quality personnel to ensure the product meets specific product safety and quality characteristics before releasing the product into available inventory or before shipment to a customer. Furthermore, quality data for ingredients and finished goods can be easily retrieved from the ERP system, and QC reports can be generated when needed.

3. Integrated Wireless Warehouse Management for RF and Barcode Scanning.
The deployment of RF and barcode scanning devices in an organization's warehouse has proven to be a successful method for streamlining warehouse operations and improving overall warehouse productivity. For companies with lot tracking and traceability requirements, wireless warehouse management technology can also provide a means to improve lot data accuracy and improve overall product traceability throughout the supply chain and throughout a given product's life cycle. In a distribution or manufacturing software system with built-in wireless warehouse management technology, lot codes can be generated automatically and barcodes applied for receipt of ingredients into inventory, finished goods produced and placed into inventory, and finished goods shipped to customers. An employee in the shipping and receiving or manufacturing department would simply scan the barcode and enter the quantity received, produced, or shipped - the system would automatically identify the lot number(s) for the items and store the data, reducing the likelihood of inaccurate ingredient or finished good lot information. The system would also track any lot movements from one location of a warehouse to another, when the ingredients or finished goods were moved from one location to another, and which user performed the inventory transaction. Furthermore, barcodes can be generated and scanned for work orders, pick tickets, and packing slips. Upon scanning the barcodes, the scanning devices would communicate directly with the ERP system as to when a given raw ingredient or finished good lot is being picked, when finished goods have been produced, and when finished goods are being packed and shipped to customers, giving organizations the ability to trace lot numbers for ingredients and finished goods at each step of the production and shipping processes.

In addition, by selecting an ERP software system that supports RFID technology, organizations can continue to strengthen their overall level of product traceability. In a report submitted by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) to the FDA, Traceability (Product Tracing) in Food Systems, the IFT states, "The identifiers used with RFID expand upon today's product codes by adding a unique serial number to each 'instance' of a particular type of product. That serialized information can be entered into a database to determine the source, expiration date, and other useful information about a particular item and to provide end-to-end traceability about specific items over time."

4. Product Shelf Life Management. An ERP software system's ability to track ingredient and finished good shelf lives and expiration dates is an important functional requirement for companies in the food and beverage industry engaging in an ERP selection project. Sophisticated ERP systems should allow for both first in, first out (FIFO) and first expiry, first out (FEFO) inventory management methodologies on a product-by-product basis. The system must be able to account for ingredient and finished good shelf lives and be able to allocate inventory for production and customer orders based on a given ingredient's or finished good's expiration date to ensure ingredients and finished goods do not expire while in inventory and to minimize the total inventory write-off for the organization due to expired product.

The ERP system should allow the organization to establish guaranteed minimum shelf life requirements for individual customers on a product-by-product basis. When a customer who has a minimum shelf life requirement for a given item places an order for that particular item, the system should override the FEFO methodology and automatically allocate only those items in inventory that are capable of meeting the customer's minimum shelf life requirements to the sales order.

5. Recall Management. Food and beverage companies face the potential of a product recall on a daily basis. In addition, businesses have recently been asked by the FDA to conduct mock recalls to determine their organization's ability to respond to a product recall in a timely, effective manner that ensures consumer safety. Given these increasingly stringent regulatory agency requirements, selecting an ERP system that allows the organization to build its own recall plan directly into the ERP system, establish notifications and alerts to be sent to specific individuals during each step or phase of the recall, and simultaneously track all costs incurred as a result of the recall can significantly improve an organization's readiness to respond to an unforeseen FDA-requested mock recall or an actual product recall should one need to be initiated.

In an article titled, What Can You Do to Be Ready for a Recall? (http://ohioline.osu.edu/aex-fact/0253.html), Doctors Gonul Kaletunc and Ferhan Ozadali outline the necessary steps an organization must take to be prepared for a product recall and what must be done during the recall process for the recall to be successful while minimizing the overall disruption and financial impact on the business. ERP systems that feature recall management and recall processing can allow the organization to build each one of these recommended steps directly into the ERP system, from drafting a recall press release and notifying the local FDA agency of the recall, to disposing recalled product and determining when the recall can be terminated. Furthermore, the system can track the status of the recall and send automated messages to specified personnel notifying them when they are to perform given tasks during the recall process. The system can also track all of the recall's associated costs from press release writing and syndication to accounting for returned product. Additionally, by selecting an ERP solution that provides the ability to build the organization's recall plan directly into the system, the business can use the recall plan to conduct mock recalls, track success, and add specific tasks, roles, and responsibilities to continue to improve its product recall procedures.

By selecting an ERP vendor and solution that can meet these requirements, companies in the food and beverage industry will be armed with the necessary software tools to improve their overall level of product safety and traceability and gain a significant competitive business advantage.

Livestock Numbering Systems

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Livestock identification is a necessity for any farmer with more than just a family cow. There are many reasons you need to track your cattle, goats, chickens, or whatever your livestock is. Maintaining a numbering system can help you prevent the spread of diseases and genetic deformations, keep track of the age of your herd, and and monitor production. Many new farmers don't think about this soon enough when building their herd. It doesn't become an issue until it is nearly too late.
If you're a new farmer beginning to build up your livestock, or even an old hand who is looking for some fresh ideas, here are some numbering system ideas.

An animal's number is meant to provide a means of identifying the livestock. Additionally, most systems employ the birth year of the animal in the number to allow for easily determining the age without having to consult the records. Most new livestock is assigned a number and tagged at birth. Some farms wait until the end of their birthing season or until vaccination and branding time to mark their new offspring.

Typical identification systems consist of two separate numbers combined. The first digit or letter will indicate the year the animal was born. For example, any calves or chicks born in 2009 will have an ID number beginning with a '9'. Newborns in 2010 will have a '0'.

The second part is simply a sequential number that indicates in what order all new births were born that year. The first chick or kid of the year will be 01, the next 02, and so on. If you have a large herd, or intend on growing it, consider using three digits instead of two!

Some animals live to be more than 10 years old. Cattle in particular tend to live past the decade point. As you can imagine, this is a disaster for record keeping! While it may be easy to see in the field whether a cow is 11 years old or only 1, your spreadsheet or tracking software isn't so astute. For this reason, some farmers will use a letter to indicate the birth year. Instead of a '9' for 2009, they will indicate it as a 'W'. 2010 will be an 'X'. Standard years are usually utilized, so that the letters indicate the same year across different farms.

Since several letters look just like numbers from a distance, these are not typically used. Those letters are I, O, Q, and Z. That leaves 22 years worth of letters. If your cow is living to be that old, you have something special on your hands!

These are just a few different numbering systems that farmers use to identify their herd. It's up to the individual farm to determine how they will track their livestock. The important thing is to get it started before it's too late!

How to Set Up A 3D Design Studio Using Only Free Software

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

3D Graphics creations are often perceived as requiring costly software. Well, this is not always the case because the internet is really a place loaded with free goodies waiting to be utilized. With the relevant skill, a designer or artist can produce works (using these free tools) that are comparable to what professional tools can do.

I will show you how to start a professional 3D graphic design studio using only free software. To produce credible 3D graphics, the tools must be able to perform the various functions namely:

1. Modelling

2. Rendering

3. Animation

4. Image editing

5. Texture creation

Well, we need to substitute commercial tools with their free and or open source equivalents.

The following is a reference to the various free 3D and graphics related resources that can be downloaded from the net.

For 3D modelling, rendering and animation there are at least 2 excellent free alternatives. They are Blender 3D and Truespace 3.2. You can get Blender 3D from http://www.blender3d.com. Truespace 3.2 can be downloaded from http://www.caligari.com which is the homepage of Truespace’s maker.

For purely dedicated 3D modeling, Wing3D is an easy to use yet very powerful tool. You can get this 3D modeling software from http://www.wings3d.com. What you need to do, is to model your stuffs on this software and then export then to either Blender3D or Truespace. File formats such as 3D Studio (3DS) , Wavefront (OBJ) and VRML (WRL) are all supported by Wings3D and can be used for exporting 3D models (created in Wings3D) to other 3D programs such as Blender3D and Truespace.

For image editing and texture creation, Gimp is a most excellent tool. This is a very powerful image editing tool. It supports layers like most professional image editors. Its many filters are excellent for creating textures and image maps for 3D models. Gimp can be downloaded from http://www.gimp.org.

Less well-known than Gimp but very delightful to use is Pixia. This is a Japanese software. Fortunately there is an English version. This tool is excellent for painting and is thus useful for creating image maps for 3D models. Pixia can be downloaded from [http://park18.wakwak.com/~pixia/].

Well, these are the free equivalents that can perform the work of commercial tools. Commercial software may be more convenient and easier to use, nevertheless these free tools can get the job done too. So, if you are on a tight budget, this may be the route to go.

Anatomy and Physiology Study Guides - Easy Way to Memorize Anatomy Terms

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Studying anatomy and physiology can be very frustrating. Have you ever searched for a simpler way to study anatomy? I went thorough the pain of memorizing mountains of medical terms. I must tell you it's not a simple task to remember them even English not to mention the Latin terms. If you truly want to make your study easier then pay close attention to this article and it will make you one step close to your goal.

o First of all memorizing the term and its meaning is very similar to learning a foreign language. That's why I have borrowed a tip to remember the words. Take a bunch of index cards and write down a term on one side of the card and its meaning on other side of it. Do it with all the terms you need to memorize. Now going through the cards one by one flipping them makes it much easier to memorize the terms. Alternate back and forth until you can give the meaning or the term and then look at the definition first and name the term.

o Second tip that was extremely helpful for me is to have some visualization of the human anatomy. You know that people receive the large portion of information from environment through eyes. Pictures and diagrams are good help. But I found even better solution. There are some pieces of software that show the three dimensional human skeletal and muscular structure. Never underestimate the power of animation. You will be surprised how easier it makes memorizing the bones and muscles of human body.

Create a Virtual 3D World on Your Website

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

VRML, which stands for virtual reality markup language, is a technology for animation and 3D modeling that lets you create 3D scenes for websites. A special VRML browser plug in lets you control the viewing of VRML components on web sites. Panoramas are another type of virtual reality component, similar in some ways to VRML in that the user needs a special plug in to view and control the viewing of the panoramic virtual reality component. However, unlike VRML panoramas are made up of a series of photographs stitched together to create one image that you can view entirely as you move your cursor across the image.

Web designers add virtual reality (VR) components to web pages for several reasons, including to make web pages more interesting and interactive, and to display an item in a 3D view.

Some common formats for panoramas include Quick Time VR, VRML2, Black Diamond's Surround Video, and Infinite Pictures SmoothMove.

VRML offers uses for many types of websites, including entertainment, education, computer aided design, product marketing, virtual malls, and much more. Panoramas are useful for these same types of websites, as well as real estate and travel.

VR components offer many advantages to web site designers. They make web sites more interesting and interactive, provide more detail for objects or places than regular flat photos, there is no need for complex programming to add a VR component to your web site , and they generally have cross-platform and cross-browser compatibility. Some disadvantages include requirement of a plug in for viewing, (in many cases), long download time for some web VR components, depending on the file size and type, and the needed skills and creativity for quality output.

Many software programs, such as Caligari's TrueSpace, Micrografx Simply 3D, Silicon Graphics Internet 3D Space Builder, and Platinum Technology's VRCreator learning edition, automatically creat VRML files for you.

Some software options for panorama creation include Apple's Quick Time VR Authoring Studio, Enroute Imaging's QuickStitch 360, Video Brush Corporation's VideoBrush Panorama, Live Picture's Photo Vista, Infinite Picture's Smooth Move, Ulead's Cool 360, and Black Diamond's Surround Video.

Now, go forth and CREATE!

John Ratzenberger and His Roles in Pixar Movies

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

John Ratzenberger is an actor most famous for his role as a mailman named Cliff Claven in the 1980s sitcom Cheers. This was the place for his funnyman lines, being the sort of Know-it-all guy with an inflated ego.

Ratzenberger's got a unique voice and Pixar has kind of regarded him as their good luck charm. They create a character for him to voice if one hasn't been integrated into the story at the time.

Of all the Pixar roles Ratzenberger's gotten to play, the one that's his favorite is P.T. Flea, the hot-headed ringmaster of the Circus Bugs. John loves this character because he's so on edge and unpredictable.

What are the other characters he plays in Pixar films? Let's go through the list and find out.

Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 (coming June 2010): John Ratzenberger's Pixar movie role in the Toy Story movies is Hamm the piggy bank. Hamm is pals with Mr. Potato Head and they do well together with their sarcastic wit. Hamm's a bit of a pessimist and likes to take pot shots at his fellow toys, often jumping to the wrong conclusions about them too quickly.

A Bug's Life: In the second Pixar film, as mentioned, Ratzenberger's role was that of P.T. Flea, ringmaster for the troupe of Circus Bugs. He's greedy, demanding and obsessed with money. Being a highly irritable bug, he fires the troupe after they failed the "Flaming Death" performance.

Monster's Inc.: In 2001, John Ratzenberger's role in Monsters Inc. was for The Abominable Snowman, a monster who had been banished from Monstropolis some time ago. Mike and Sulley were also banished when they discovered Henry Waternoose's agenda and were sent to the snowy Himalayan mountains where they meet Mr. Abominable. Looming and frightening at first, he quickly greets the two with "Welcome to the Himalayas!" and is a hospitable, gentle creature. Personally, he is my favorite Ratzenberger-voiced character!

Finding Nemo: The role John plays in this film is unique; it's not a single character, but a school of moonfish. Marlin and Dory cross paths with the school of moonfish as they search for a way to get to Sydney, Australia. The moonfish swim together with remarkable precision and can make pictures of such shapes as an octopus and the Sydney Opera House. They poke fun of Marlin by making his shape and moving his mouth as he explains something to Dory, whom he's upset. In the end, the moonfish make a brilliant, flashing arrow, pointing the way to the East Australian Current, the superhighway direct to Sydney.

The Incredibles: Stick around to the very end for The Incredibles, because John Ratzenberger's minor role doesn't occur until, literally, the end of the film. After the Parr family (The Incredibles) defeat the Omnidroid and Syndrome, they think they're back into a life of normal routine. As the family is leaving the track event Dash just finished, a villain named The Underminer breaks through the surface of the parking lot in an enormous drilling machine. He's a mole-like monster who declares war on peace and happiness. The Incredibles family don their masks, ready for the challenge of defeating a new bad guy.

Cars: Big, lovable and loyal, Razenberger's role on this Pixar film is Mack, a 1985 Mack Semi-Hauler who wears the red and white Rust-Eze cap and pulls the fancy, state-of-the-art container for Lightning McQueen. Even when the rest of McQueen's crew quit on him for being so arrogant and obnoxious, Mack sticks by him. McQueen later demands that Mack drive all through the night to get to LA for the tiebreaker race of the Piston Cup. Mack can barely stay awake though, and finally dozes off when a gang of street racer cars put on some pretty music. This is when the trailer door opens and Lightning McQueen's adventure begins.

Ratatouille: Ratzenberger's role for Ratatouille is in a restaurant full of colorful characters. He plays Mustafa, the head water of Gusteau's in Paris, France. Mustafa is a plump man with a thin mustache. He's great at taking orders, but only if they're off the menu. When the feared food critic Anton Ego snidely tells Mustafa to "Serve me some fresh perspective," the waiter looks like a deer caught in the headlights, frozen with fear and confusion. What's that supposed to mean, he wonders.

WALL-E: John plays John in WALL-E. John is one of the passengers aboard The Axiom starliner who is lost in his own world with holographic screens and a sedentary lifestyle. Robots wait on him every moment of the day and in the movie John mistakes WALL-E for a drink-bot and falls out of his chair. This is what "wakes" him up and the small robot introduces himself to John. Later on, John meets Mary, another passenger who has been awakened from the oblivion around her. Together they watch EVE and WALL-E space dancing outside and then they notice one another, feeling an attraction. They help one another save babies when Auto tries to take over the ship and John shows some real leadership qualities.

Up: Ratzenberger's role in this Pixar film is Tom, a construction worker on the site surrounding Carl Fredricksen's home. John relates to Tom because he used to be a house framer before his career in acting took off. Tom is friendly toward the old man Carl, and makes an offer on the house on behalf of his boss. But his answer is met with a face full of wind as Carl points the leaf blower at him. Carl then takes Tom's megaphone and insults his boss, to which Tom shouts back urgently that he's not with him. Poor Tom!

These are the Pixar Roles that John Ratzenberger has played thus far. I hope that Pixar continues this tradition along with the many other fun traditions in their animated films. The characters and roles Mr. Ratzenberger shall play in future films will be so much fun to listen for as we sit in the theater immersed in a great Pixar story.

Millsberry Virtual World Review - A Cute and Enjoyable Experience For Kids

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Millsberry is an online virtual world game created by General Mills, the food giant. The virtual world is however 2D and not 3D. Millsberry can be played online and is totally free of cost. Once a player signs up and creates an account, he or she has a variety of options to choose from- the avatar's outward look, the clothes etc. These things can be purchased using Millsbucks, the currency form of the game. Initially every player is provided a certain sum of money, but later, the players have to earn this money by playing different mini games.

Every player's performance in the game is judged by the following 5 factors- Health, Fitness, Intelligence, Civics and Hunger. In fact, Millsberry is a very educative game- children get to learn to open a bank account, or to send a post at the post office and several other things, which come in handy in life.

However, what excites the children are the options available for customisation of the avatar and all the goodies they can buy once they have enough millsbucks. They can buy their own house, decorate it, make friends and visit their homes. Having said that, the virtual world lacks the X factor as it is two dimensional. One doesn't ever get a holistic idea of how the place looks like. The navigation is a little rough and there are other technical problems as well. Because of these, the children are sometimes left dejected- they create their perfect house but somehow. It just doesn't look that great in the game. This problem is compounded by the fact there is no preview option.

The Millsberry mini games aimed at the collection of Millsbucks are interesting. Games like Archery and Solver keep the kids hooked on Millsberry. They lay great emphasis on creative activities like music and photography. Thus, they promote these interests in kids and kids get to develop their skills here.

But again, they come with their own set of problems. The instructions for these games are very unclear and kids are left confused about the rules. Also, the games tend to become repetitive and boring after a point of time.

The plot of the game has weekly stories which are also related to mini games. These are updated regularly but still, there isn't a central story line running through Millsberry. Nevertheless, the weekly aspect manages to keep the kids curious.

One area that is flawless in Millsberry is the safety aspect. Parents have absolutely no reason to feel worried about their kids playing Millsberry. There is no offensive language, no obscenity at all. But this is a direct implication of the fact there is no communication in the game. Millsberry lacks any interactive qualities and has only educative books. This makes the game a little monotonous. After all, kids love to interact and make friends.

Millsberry also falls short when it comes to the community aspect. There is no sense of social bonding. One would expect it to have a strong community, it being an online game. But there are no chat forums or any platform that facilitates conversations between fellow players. There are only a select few pre-determined phrases which cannot support a normal conversation.

General Mills has also used Millsberry virtual world to advertise their own products. All the food products that can be bought in the game carry their logos. These products are ridiculously over priced and this reportedly bothers parents. They believe that since everything is so expensive, children tend to get obsessed with collecting money. They are solely driven by consumerist tendencies. However, this is one of the minor problems.

Thus, Millsberry is cute and enjoyable for kids. But it has its share of technical and thematic problems which need to be looked into.

Pokemon Illustrator - Is it the Rarest Pokemon Card Ever?

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

Back in 1997 right after Pokemon was introduced in Japan, a little known drawing contest took place. This contest was held a total of 3 times during 1997 in Japan. Each time, two of the best drawings were selected and the prize was a rare Japanese Pokemon card. This card came to be known as "the Illustrator" or the "Pikachu Illustrator" as it is sometimes called.

Is this card truly the rarest Pokemon card of all time?

The answer I believe is a definite "Yes". It is by far the rarest Japanese Pokemon card of all time and I would say that it is the rarest Pokemon card the world has ever seen. There was a total of only six of these cards ever produced. But to make it even more rare, most of the cards were given out to very young children. The only one I have ever seen was given out to a 6 year old boy. So, of the 6 cards that were given out 13 years ago, how many exist today? And in what condition? Nobody knows for sure, but there have only been 1 or 2 of these cards to surface in the 13 years that I have been following Pokemon. The one that is currently for sale is priced at a whopping .500.00 A small fortune for most of us, but the card has been steadily increasing in value ever since its creation in 1997. This particular one is in mint or very near mint condition which is very rare considering the card was mainly given to very small children.

The card is a beautiful holofoil that says "Illustrator" instead of "Trainer" on the top of the card. It shows Pikachu holding a paintbrush and has two stars at the bottom of the card indicating its rarity. In addition, it also has a paintbrush logo on the bottom of the card instead of a series mark.

Other people argue that some of the other rare Japanese Pokemon cards are just as rare. For example, the Pikachu trophy trainer no. 1 card, the Super Secret Battle Mewtwo 1st place gold trophy card, or the Tropical Mega Battle no. 1 trainer with Exeggutor on it come to mind. These are all very rare Japanese promo cards and each were also produced in extremely low quantity, but I would still have to say the Pikachu Illustrator would have to be the rarest Pokemon card of all time, simply because of the fact that the card seems to be almost impossible to find. The other cards surface once in a great while and are all valued at about 00-7000 per card, but the Illustrator is the king of them all in my book.

There Are Many Different Types of Blogs

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

There are many different types of blogs although most blogs are a little bit of all types. So the type of blog you build is limited only by your imagination. You may also want to do a bit of research to see what type of blog styles are currently out there. For example some blogs focus on one topic that may be very general like animals where other blogs will be more specific such as a blog about only dogs or even a blog about only German Shepherd dogs.

When you are organizing your content for a blog the smaller your focus the easier your organizing will be since the topic will be very narrow it will be easy to choose categories. When you are focusing on a larger, more general topic, choosing categories may become more difficult.

When building a blog there are typically 9 major areas that all blogs fall into: business, culture, community, politics, religion, science, travel, online diaries, and gossip. Again, when looking at these categories you will see how many blogs will cross into multiple areas at different times depending on the topic of the most recent post. Even business blogs can have gossip or politics or even religion depending on the voice of the person creating the blog and also depending on the business the blog is for.

When you are considering setting up your blog another thing to consider is the program or software you will use to create it. Most blogging software tends to have links to other blogs created with the same software easily available to other users. Wordpress blogs tend to have links to other Wordpress blogs and blogger blogs tend to have links to other blogger blogs built right into them. This is the same for social networking types of blogging platforms. Sites like Livejournal and MySpace allow users to surf from blog to blog based on friend links and similar content.

Blogs can be more than just articles that you type up and post to the internet. There are also photo or video blogs. In these blogs the information is usually conveyed using pictures or videos. With a video blog the blogger might record themselves talking about the topic that day or maybe record an event that is occurring that they want to share with the world. They then take that video and post it to their blog and make it available for everyone to watch.

While most blogs are created by a company or an individual there are blogs that allow many people to participate in providing information. Some that are gaining in popularity are geographic blogs. These blogs focus on information pertaining to a specific region of the world, may it be a country, a state, a city or one neighborhood. Then everything on the blog would be directly related to that specific area.

So you see, blogs can be as unique as the people that create them. It is best to determine the purpose of your blog before you get started and consider what you hope to accomplish by having one and therefore what the best platform will be for your particular type of blog. But you also want to remember not to get too caught up in the planning. A blog in your head does you no good at all. Part of the point of blogging in the first place is to get your information out onto the internet where the world can see it. With a little bit of planning and preparation you will be able to get started on your blog very easily.

The History Of The Roman Coliseum

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

The precision, the amount of scientific detail involved and the architectural perfection of Roman buildings have continued to inspire and enthrall architects, engineers and scientists alike. The Roman Coliseum is by far one the most advanced and sophisticated stadiums built until date. No technology or modern equipment can ever match the colossal yet accurate designing of this stadium that was built way before computers and software technology were developed.

Interestingly it was not built for hosting any sporting events but for allowing gladiators to fight with others and sometimes even animals! That was the Roman definition for entertainment. Emperor Vesuvius started the construction of this giant stadium in between 70 AD and 72 AD. It just took seven to ten years for completion. From 81 AD to 96 AD, Domitian, the succeeding Roman emperor, brought in a few changes and modifications to complete the building. Huge arches were fixed at perfect symmetrical positions to balance the weight of the stadium. It could host nearly 50,000 people at a time!

Gladiators from Britain, Gaul, North Africa and the Middle East were brought in to fight with each other. The Roman era witnessed some of the most brutal killings and bloodshed inside the stadium during this period. Lions and ostriches were some of the wild animals placed along with gladiators to fight!

However, a strong earthquake in 1349 destroyed the stadium reducing its seating capacity to a meager 100. Today, the stadium has been renovated, is lit twice every year and is ironically a symbol of anti capital punishment! The colors of the stadium are changed from gold to white every time a culprit's death sentence is revoked.

Tips on How to Avoid Common Pitfalls Associated With Website Design

,
3D ANIMATION SOFTWARE :

One common problem with web design is that there is so much new technology to choose from that it can become tempting to over complicate a website with new-fangled techniques that only serve to confuse the viewer rather than impress. It can also be tempting to over simplify the design of a website to make it easier to develop even if this sacrifices usability. A lack of focus on content in favour of visual imagery can also be a turn off just as too much content without anything visually stimulating to look at can cause a reader to become bored. Creating a website that ticks all of those boxes is what is really important so here a compilation of some tips has been put together to help you avoid the common pitfalls associated with web design.

Use simple technology that works

Firstly, don't try to impress the viewer with the latest technology. They might not have the software needed to access your site if you do so use something that is usable and accessible from any system or mobile phone. If your viewer has to download software just to look at your site then chances are they simply won't bother. Whilst it might be exciting for the designer to use new technology in their designs, the viewer could be put off completely.

Try not to use frames and too many scroll bars

Secondly, avoid using frames in your website development. It might be really easy for you if you do but it can look really confusing because of the multiple scroll bars and if your visitors become frustrated then they may well just navigate away for the sake of something easier to use. A simple design that displays information and content in an accessible, user-friendly way will attract the most attention and encourage further visits in the future.

Don't use flashing imagery

When designing the content of the site it is probably also best to avoid too much over stimulating content in the form of flashing images, animations and blinking text. This can affect the visibility of the text and make it hard to read. Sticking to basic text with some colour and imagery will work better.

Use colours that match

If you are in the process of considering what colours to use then imagine how you would dress or paint your house. Web design is no different in this regard. For your site to work together well, use colours that match and sit well together. Colours that are mismatched and contrasting can be hard to look at and may be off putting for the visitor. Your site should be aesthetically pleasing to create an overall image.

Do your visitors know where they are and how they got there?

If you have lots of links in your site then it can become easy for a visitor to end up on a site that is so far removed from where they wanted to be that they have no idea how they got there. If your content covers too many topics with lots of tabs then they could end up reading about information that is entirely irrelevant. Your reader should know how they got to the page they have found themselves on and how to get back to where they started with relative ease.

Break up the content so it is easily accessible

Avoid reams and reams of text because if your reader has to scroll down then chances are they will simply look elsewhere or assume that there is nothing interesting or worthwhile that needs reading. If you have important information that you want your visitors to read then break up your content into different pages so that they can jump to the information they are looking for quickly and know how to find it without having to rifle through paragraphs of text.

Avoid navigation problems

Use tabs and a menu bar to help your visitors navigate their way around your site with ease. Your visitors may want a particular piece of information and may not just be browsing so you must make it easy for them to find what they are looking for. Break up your content enough so that information can be found easily enough to get to without complicating navigation.

Don't reinvent the wheel

There are certain conventions that you should stick to so that your readers know what they are dealing with. If you have lots of links, for instance, then the convention is that links that have not yet been visited are in blue, and links that have been seen are highlighted purple. Visitors are used to this convention and it helps them work out what content they have already looked at so that they don't have to remember the title of the link. If you try to break with this tradition you will only serve to confuse your visitors and they may give up and navigate away in favour of a site that is easier for them to use.

Avoid stale content and out of date information

One of the most important things to avoid is stale content. If your site has not been changed for a very long time but all of the information is still accurate then it may still be interesting to new visitors but not to those that have already visited the site. Worse still, is if the information you have on your site is out of date and old, referring to topics that are no longer current. This can give the impression that you as a business are out of touch too and can immediately turn a visitor way, with the assumption that you may not even still be trading. Change your content and ensure that it is current and up to date for the greatest impact.
